Community

Residential Community:

Our residential area is home for Wisterian families. We are developing a model for cooperative stewardship of common ground. To learn to live in harmony with the natural world, we seek to cultivate ways of life in which we can beautifully and safely thrive.

Area:

Wisteria is near the city of Athens and the Ohio River. As an intentional community we are organized as a land development and stewardship corporation. Decisions are made at monthly meetings, by a super majority of 75%, but we always attempt to meet everyone's needs in our decisions. All members are shareholders who elect a Board of Directors. Members are organized by households. There are currently 14 households. Each household owns and votes shares of our privately held corporation. Wisteria is not your everyday corporation, it is much more...

Extended Community:

The best way to learn more about Wisteria is to volunteer. Each year we have several community weekends where those interested in Wisteria's mission can come work and play with us.

Fellowship:

At Wisteria we value each other, but we also value our independence and individuality. Thus, we function much more as a cooperative of homesteaders, rather than a traditional neighborhood. At Wisteria we not only share responsibility for the land and a business, we also share, a love and respect for each other and the earth.

Wisteria is situated on 620 private and rural acres in beautiful southeastern Ohio.  We are in the rolling foothills of the Allegheny mountain plateau region of the Appalachian mountain chain. Scattered throughout this enchanted land are forests and fields, winding trails and streams, rocky outcroppings, caves, and lush plant and animal life.
