Work Barter - Working with Community

The cornerstone of all Wisteria events is our community. Apply for event work barter today!

The magic that is a Wisteria event would not be possible without the hard work of our work barter staff. We offer work barter placements in many event areas, including Caffeina’s Kitchen, Caffeina’s Cosmic Cafe, First Aid, Security, the Gate House, Facilities, and more.

Guidelines for work barter

  • Shifts are usually 4 to 6 hours per day, usually each day of the event, but we try to give you days off for longer events.
  • We expect you to show up on time for your shift and stay through the end of it, but we’ll do our best to fit your schedule to your preferences.
  • The orientation meeting is 7PM the day before the event starts, so make sure you can attend, or let us know if you can’t.
  • Work barter volunteers get free admission, including the day before the event, free wifi for one device, lunch and dinner on event days, and brunch on the final day (usually Sunday).
  • You also get free admission for ONE child age 13 or under. We encourage older kids to volunteer too, it’s a wonderful opportunity to make new friends. We comply with Ohio labor laws regarding work hours and tasks for kids 14-17.
  • As work barter volunteers, you’re here to take care of our attendees, and we’re here to take care of you. Let’s all have fun, be ourselves, and be kind.

Here’s how the work barter application process works:

  1. You fill out the work barter application for the event. Each event has its own application form, make sure you’re filling out the right one.
  2. You’ll get a confirmation email within 10 business days saying we’ve received it. Didn’t get yours? Check your spam folder, or email workbarter@wisteria.org and ask. We’re a volunteer team, we do our best to reply promptly, but most of us have day jobs.
  3. Applications will close about three weeks before the event, or earlier if we fill up (so apply early!)
  4. About two weeks before the event, you’ll get your final confirmation, and a draft schedule. We accept most applications, but there’s a chance we might not be able to place you if we’re filled up, or if you’ve been unreliable in the past.
  5. You look over the draft schedule, make sure we scheduled you for a department and time that works for you, and let us know either way.
  6. About one week before the event, you’ll get the final schedule
  7. You show up for the event the day before, and attend the orientation meeting at 7PM at the Pavilion. Food is provided. You’ll get the general introduction and then meet with your department manager.

If you have any questions regarding work barter commitment, contact us at WorkBarter@wisteria.org for more information. In addition to work barter at events, Wisteria also hosts occasional work weekends throughout the year. Don’t let the name fool you, these are the most fun some of us have all year!
