Wisteria is happy to announce a new summer festival: Appalachian Herb Fest, August 15-18, 2024. Come learn about the world of plants in beautiful Southeastern Ohio! This event features speakers include Byron Ballard and Papa Joe Oakenthorn, as well as vendors, workshops, and of course all the community and celebration you expect from us.

On Thursday, we’ll settle in with an overview, introductions, and a community fire. Bring your instruments, and we’ll share music and stories together.

Friday, we’ll begin by learning scientific identification methods and taking a look at all the amazing flora of Wisteria’s beautiful acres. As we explore our environments, we’ll be gathering information for Bioblitz and exploring the diversity of our region.

Saturday, we’ll learn about the uses for the trees and herbs we’ve learned to identify. From carving and construction to firewood to food, we’ll go over all the things our trees offer us. And we’ll go over foraging for herbs for food, medicine, and other uses.

Nightly fires will showcase what we’ve learned together, with cooking, celebration, and community.
